Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Q: How do I use "The Loving Purple Light" in the classroom?
A: Use this relaxation technique to recenter your class, especially effective after lunch or recess, when students are ready to relax and refocus.
Q: What's the best position for students to do the LPL practice?
A: The best position is whatever position each student feels most comfortable in. Allow your students to find their favorite positions (ie. lying down, sitting at a desk with heads down, etc.).
Q: What's the best way to facilitate the practice?
A: There are many options. You could read the book or listen to a pre-recorded reading on our website. A student may also be chosen to read the book which can foster connection.
Q: How do I use "The Loving Purple Light" at home?
A: Incorporate this practice into bedtime routines to help reconnect with loving and achieve a restful night's sleep. It's also beneficial for family refocusing when needed.
Q: Do I need special training to facilitate?
A: The self-guided program provides everything you need to start. In-person training offers deeper support but isn't required.
Q: What if students are fidgety or don't seem engaged?
A: This is normal! Keep sessions short initially and gradually build up. Focus on creating a calm, non-judgmental space.
Timing & Duration
Q: How long does each session take?
A: Typically 10-20 minutes, but can be adapted to your time availability.
Q: How long should the relaxation technique last?
A: It depends on how quickly the class enters "the zone," that calm state where they move past any discomfort and focus inwardly. Once they're in that space, it creates a beautiful stillness in the room. Let your class remain in that state for as long as your schedule allows, as it's so nourishing for their well-being.
Q: How often should we practice LPL?
A: Many teachers use it daily, but even weekly practice shows benefits. Consistency matters more than frequency.
Age Groups & Customizations
Q: What age groups work best with LPL?
A: In schools, we find K-5 is very effective, but all ages use the LPL successfully.
Q: Can I customize the practice for my students?
A: Absolutely! We encourage you to customize the narrative of the Loving Purple Light to your needs. For example, when experiencing The Loving Purple Light, kindergarten students may feel that they want to send their love to their grandma, toys, teacher, etc. There are endless possibilities that can beautifully enhance the experience.

Veronica West
4th Grade Teacher, Keolu Elementary
"I wanted to share with you that today our class was all over the place and I was feeling so overstimulated. After they came back from lunch, we did The Loving Purple Light (to their great excitement) and it was like we started a new day."
Shari Wladis
Education Consultant & Book Reviewer
"The Loving Purple Light gives such a break without requiring the teacher to remember the steps of a relaxation technique. A teacher can just pick up the book and read it calmly. How much time is used can range from a moment to longer once the guiding to a quiet place is complete."
Nano Chatfield
Founder, The Girls Foundation of Tanzania
"Although I had read the book on my own before our class [in an after school program in Tanzania], I didn't anticipate how powerful our focus would be, how a deep quiet enveloped us and a profound gentleness and sense of togetherness."
